A life in the balance

Just wanted to update everyone about what is going on with Christopher. Last Monday he was admitted to The Children's Hospital because he had stopped breathing. He did pretty good until they did the bronchial scope to look at his airways. During the procedure his throat swelled up to where he quit breathing, so they had to put him on a ventilator. The ventilator is now doing all the breath for Christopher. The pictures from the bronchial scope showed that there is 3 obstructions that are preventing him from breathing so they said the best option for him is to do a Treacheostomy so that he can breath better. Then the ear,Nose and throat specialists did an Upper GI on him to see how bad his reflux is. Well, I guess it is pretty bad because they have decided to do a nissen (stomach wrap) on his stomach to prevent him from having the reflux and aspirating into his lungs. Doing this will give his throat time to heal so that they can to the reconstructive surgery in April or May granted he has gained enough weight. So, tomorrow he will be getting the trach, nissen, and a Feeding tube (Gtube). All in all the surgeries will take anywhere from 4-5hrs. The nissen procedure is considered a high risk surgery due to the high risk of cutting something on accident or him bleeding out. There's a chance they wont make it tight enough and it won't help. Or they make it too tight and no food can get down there.

So, I am posting this too just ask those of you that will read this to be thinking of Christopher in his time of need. Tomorrow will be a very rough day for everyone and we just have to play everything by ear. Will post tomorrow with an update.
